The Ones Who Were is a side scrolling game that reminds us about the importance of atmosphere and music for engagement and delivering the story. You play as a message delivering dove, sending short but touching stories of loved ones trapped in war. It reminds us that games don’t necessarily have to have fancy graphics or mechanics to engage and move us. The game also reminds us of the power of interactive storytelling by going back to the basics — and widens our perspective on how narrative can be designed for games.
