Participate

Everybody is welcome!

You can participate in the Quantum Game Jam as a game maker or as a quantum physicist. In order to participate in a game jam, you do not need to be a professional game developer. Whether you can program, design games, think quantum, draw, model, create audio, compose music, or make coffee: you are needed! Being a (quantum) game maker is a constant learning process – come and learn together with others!

Register

All the participants of the Quantum Game Jam are required to register as a participant at one of the physical sites or as an online participant prior to the event (or depending on the site, at the location).

Around the globe

The main site for the Quantum Game Jam is at The Finnish Science Centre Heureka, Finland. There are satellite sites around the globe, which are organized independently (check the list below). You can also participate from your home as an online jammer if you have your own team or can work independently (similar to Ludum Dare).

Each Quantum Game Jam location is organized independently. Depending on the local jamming cultures and the resources available, you might find differences in group forming exercises, additional program, facilities, available technology, opening hours, sponsored meals, participation fee etc. If you are unsure of the details, please do not hesitate to contact your local organizers.

Help from quantum physicists

During the game jam, you can chat with quantum physicists to get feedback on your idea and answers to your questions on quantum. Some sites have quantum physicists as participants in the local teams (check the details below).

Theme

The Quantum Game Jam is a 48h jam where the participants create games together in teams (or alone, if you so wish). The overall theme of the Quantum Game Jam is quantum physics and the specific themes are provided for the participants at the beginning of the jam as video keynotes (online participants receive a link to the videos via email).

Games & THE future of your projects

The Quantum Game Jam games are created from scratch within the jam weekend and released at the end of the event under a Creative Commons license (Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike). The event is co-organized by the Games4Quantum project (University of Turku) and the Finnish Game Jam organization with the help of several organizations around the globe. Via Quantum Game Jam Games4Quantum is aiming to find interesting game prototypes to develop further in order to contribute to quantum physics research questions and learning quantum intuition.
